Proskills responds to concerns over PrintIT!

There has been significant speculation about Proskills ability and desire to support PrintIT! but we would like to reassure the industry that Proskills remains 100% committed to the programme and will continue to deliver PrintIT! as part of our efforts to maintain the never ending work of informing young people about the industry, and hopefully inspiring them to consider a future career in print.

It is a fact that our funding has been cut, which has forced us to review resourcing and staffing in all areas of our business. As a result of this, however, we have created a larger team within Proskills to support PrintIT!, covering more disciplines, specialist skills and industry expertise than ever before.

In addition to this internal team resource, PrintIT! also benefits from the support of a host of volunteers and sponsors from printers, equipment manufacturers, trade associations and schools, all of whom work hard to make this programme such a success.

With the final judging of this year’s entries having taken place earlier this month, all finalist students and their teachers are set to be presented with their prizes at the annual PrintIT! Awards ceremony, which will place on the 22nd May at Ipex 2010. The standard of work this year was again extremely high, and we look forward to sharing the student’s successes with you all during this forthcoming event.

Our work with PrintIT! has continued to develop over the past few months, and we have been delighted with the recent level of support and encouragement we have had from the industry. Riding on the success of the PrintIT!, which has now engaged over 100,000 students in England, in January this year, we launched PrintIT! Scotland, which has had a fantastic response. Over 100 Scottish schools have already registered to date and the team is working hard to find printers to twin with local schools. We are also investigating the use of social networking sites to help spread the word.

We are well advanced into the planning stages for the 2010/11 programme for PrintIT!, and looking at ways to further improve the programme. In addition, we are keen to engage with all PrintIT!’s stakeholders to see how the initiative moves forward and to ensure the continuation of what is undoubtedly a highly successful initiative. We have already received commitment from several sponsors to date, but of course, as such a strategically important industry initiative, we are always keen to welcome new support, listen to new ideas and gain feedback from the industry.
